Ahead of his return to Groovebox this August, we caught up with the legendary producer and DJ during Groovebox In The Park to talk about one of the most iconic records in house music history.
From the underground clubs of New York and Boston in the early 90’s to now performing on the world’s biggest stages, his music has soundtracked generations of dancefloors while helping shape the sound of house music itself.
Rather than being defined by one standout moment, Armand’s career has been built on a series of era-defining records. Whether it’s the underground house grooves of Witch Doktor and The Funk Phenomena to the global appeal of tracks like My My My and Bonkers, his music has consistently pushed forward while keeping the spirit of the dance floor at its heart.
Yet, when asked which track he was most excited to play at Groovebox In The Park, Armand didn’t hesitate, “Usually I play my own music. A song I wrote with a friend of mine, Duane Harden, in 1998. It’s called ‘You Don’t Know Me’.”
A SONG WITH A MESSAGE
Released in 1999, You Don’t Know Me became one of the defining records of its era. The track paired Armand’s signature production with Duane Harden’s unforgettable vocals, creating a record that topped charts around the world while carrying a message that resonated beyond club culture.
For Armand, that’s exactly what makes the record so special, “It’s very difficult to make a song that has a message beyond just getting loose on the dance floor. For me, that one’s very special.”

More than twenty-five years later, the track remains a fixture in clubs, festivals and radio playlists across the globe. Its longevity speaks not only to the quality of the production but also to Armand’s ability to create music that connects emotionally with listeners while delivering the energy that house music demands.
